A personal list of books about programming I consider to be worth reading:

Title Author ISBN Commentary
Graphicsprogramming with C/C++ and Assembler Michael Abrash
2-7361-3415-X
A quite good but not easy book about optimizing graphic and non-graphic algorithms. The author was largly involved in the developpement of the Quake-Engine and is considered a guru in optimizing 3D-Routines.
Das Assembler-Buch Trutz Eyke Podschun
3-8273-1513-1
A German book about programming in assembler and its use in conjuction with high level programming languages. Very good for beginner and intermediate Assembler-programmers. Also usefull to get a basic understanding of how and why things work like they do.
